This is a social media contest and anything that is cute and catchy will garner more votes. The top five finalists are rated on the message first and then creativity. People have played to their strengths—we’ve had an impersonator, cosplay costumes, dolled up dogs and firefighters in their gear. Winning from the top five is about popularity and the more you and your connections put the word out, the more votes you’ll get. The first-year winner put signs in their yard and on their vehicles, and got people from work involved.

A primary purpose of this social media contest is to get the concept of ColoradoScape out to Castle Rock residents. When neighbors walk or drive by the ColoradoScape designed front yard, this education is present every day (and is not hidden in the back yard.)
No, the ColoradoScape Contest is based on the networking of social media and getting the word out to our connections. The contest is available through all primary social network channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). The Town of Castle Rock will use our social media platform reach (followers) to get the word out so the number of your followers is not critical.
This is a contest geared toward water conservation so any tips on low-water plants and materials, irrigation efficiency and the benefits of water conservation, will be warranted. Keep it positive and 30 to 60 seconds.
Past entries have been simple cell phone video of comments from the family, from kids and pets being cute, as well as ones with downloaded video templates, costumes and conservation-laced poems. The message is most important.
Shoot the video horizontally on any media device (phone, tablet, etc.). Upload the video to your preferred social media platform (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), set your account to PUBLIC and tag @CRgov. Additionally, entrants must complete an online form, found at CRconserve.com, identifying the participant and providing their contact information and video. We will send you a confirmation that we got it. If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours of uploading, contact us. When the top five finalists are chosen, we will reach back out to you to confirm your information and upload the video to our social media channels for the final competition.
Participants should upload their 30 to 60 second video to a social media platform, and through the online link, anytime between April 1 to 30. We take a few days to select the top five and then will put it out for the public to vote via likes around May 6-13. Castle Rock Water will then get with the winner about HOA permissions, design and logistics. The scheduled installation date is the first week of June.
The selection committee will typically include the Mayor, a Town Councilmember and members of the Water Commission. The videos are rated on the conservation message first and then creativity.
Yes! You can use the same video too. The 2021 winner, though they created a new video, had entered the previous year.
