In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and to accommodate social distancing, the 2020 Water Wiser courses will be conducted through a virtual WebEx meeting and subsequent online course and test.
The online development of this course was challenging as the instructors and participants usually enjoy a high degree of interaction. A WebEx meeting with video and chat capability will allow for this interactivity. Instructors will also be available after the workshop to answer specific questions. The meeting will begin 15 minutes prior to the workshop so those participants can familiarize themselves with the WebEx features.
The Water Wiser workshop will also utilize the online renewal class that current Water Wiser participants can take for updating their designation. The renewal course is a refresher and not comprehensive of all of the water efficient measures outlined in the workshop. However, it provides a great overview and a graded test to ensure the primary points are emphasized.
The Water Wiser workshop has proven to be highly effective in educating residents on easy ways to become more efficient with irrigation practices. For instance, the course covers how to redirect a misaligned sprinkler head, a common source of water waste. It also addresses what to do, instead of applying more water, if a brown spot appears in a lawn. Completion of the Water Wiser workshop allows residents to water only when plants need irrigation rather than the prescribed every-third-day watering schedule. All residents are still required to water within the 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. timeframe.
Currently, Water Wiser workshops are only available in July. Castle Rock Water will inform residents if subsequent courses, virtual or in-person, are available later in the year. Registration for these free courses is available at CRconserve.com.
